Capturing the Spirit of the American West in Bronze
The Artist
Sculptor · Storyteller · Son of the West
Scott Mortensen is a celebrated western art sculptor whose intricate wildlife pieces have captivated collectors and galleries across the country. With a deep reverence for the American West and its untamed landscapes, Scott brings to life the spirit of the wild — from powerful bison and soaring eagles to the quiet dignity of Native American heritage.
Each sculpture begins as a labor of love: meticulously sculpted in wax or clay, then cast in bronze using the age-old lost-wax process. The result is a timeless work of art that carries the weight and warmth of the land that inspired it.

From first sketch to finished bronze — an ancient process, a timeless result.
Every sculpture begins with observation — studying the subject in its natural habitat to capture authentic movement and emotion in careful sketches.
The form is sculpted by hand in clay or wax — building anatomy layer by layer until every muscle, texture, and expression is perfected.
Using the ancient cire perdue technique, a ceramic mold is created and molten bronze is poured in — unchanged for thousands of years.
Chemical patinas are applied with heat to achieve rich, warm bronze tones. Each piece is sealed and mounted on a hand-selected stone or wood base.

I commissioned Scott to create a piece honoring my grandfather's ranch. What he delivered moved me to tears. His ability to translate a story into bronze is unmatched.
